Hey, I'm Elliot Idio I'm a senior at Virginia Tech studying civil engineering with a focus on construction This past fall I was working with Gilbane Building Company As an intern working on a high rise luxury unit up in New York City So, come on , let's see what i've been doing this past fall So, come on , let's see what i've been doing this past fall So I currently live with my family in a called Nutley, located in Northern NJ So to get to my project, everyday I take the train, which the overall commute plus walking took an hour and a half The project I was under is called the Crown Building project located across Trump Tower in NYC

This renovation project is a 26 story high rise luxury unit, filled with all sorts of amenities such as pools, restaurants, terraces, and spas, as seen in these renderings Things I did on a daily basis included attending a lot of coordination meetings and a lot of handling documents such as RFIs, submittals, sketches, and markups RFIs and submittals are important documents to the construction process used to gain information or approval Outside of office work, I always try to walk around the project, getting to know it better as seen in these snippets you can see parts of the project I work under the MEP team, the mechanical, electrical, plumbing team So my main partner was a project engineer named Charbel, my two managers Rich and Corinne, and a gold star super Rick We were just however one small part of a one big happy family that I was so fortunate enough to be with this past semester I say the biggest major accomplishment I had was gaining a lot of responsibility while handling these documents There are plenty of times when my managers were busy doing other work and my partner Charbel would be at grad school so I would have a lot of independent responsibility calling the contractors or the engineers asking questions about certain areas making sure things were in proper order and so forth Overall I learned many things, such as how parts of the construction process works, more knowledge about HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Steam and other systems, how to prioritize which is important as things can get overwhelming, and overall how important it is to communicate properly in the construction industry Here, you can see the whole project as of today (12/6/19), there's still a lot to be constructed, but I'm proud to have been part of such an interesting and challenging project with a team that cares Gilbane Cares
