Hi, I'm Kayla Hi, I'm Daleen and today we're going to be showing you how to make a low-tech assistive technology device that can be utilized for individuals who lack the fine motor skills in the fingers and hands that might be needed to grip a phone

Individuals can use this to text, call, FaceTime their friends, watch movies, and read which are all leisure activities that can be done on the phone The tools that he will need to make this device are tape, a hot glue gun, shelf liner, scissors, and a phone case You're going to begin by lining the shelf liner with the phone case Then, you're gonna cut along the bottom and then continue cutting on the side so that the shelf liner fits perfectly over the case Once you have finished cutting, the shelf liner should fit perfectly over the phone case

Next, you're going to take a glue gun to apply glue from the top of the phone case to the bottom in a left-to-right zigzag motion When you are finished applying the glue, place the shelf liner directly over the phone case and use a writing utensil to press down so that you don't burn your fingers What you want to do next, is put your fingers on the shelf liner and cut two fingers length to the left of it and two fingers length of the right of it You then want to cut about four fingers wide of the shelf liner and then cut it in half so that you have two long pieces Once you take one pieces of the shelf liner, you then want to tape the ends of it with tape remaining on top of the shelf liner, to the left of it, and to the right of it

So you should have one shelf liner with two tapes on either end With the sticky side of the tape facing up, you want to bend over the shelf liner and tape it to the side of the phone case so that it is about 1/3 of the way down You will then tape the bottom part of the shelf liner by bending it over backwards and taping it to the side of the phone case where is also about 1/3 of the way from the bottom of the phone case Once you have one handle done, then you will do the same to the other side So again, take the other piece of shelf liner and add tape to either end with tape remaining on the top, to the left of, and to the right of it

And then you want to put the sticky side of the tape on the side of the phone case about 1/3 of the way down and then 1/3 of the way up by bending it inward Once you've followed all the previous steps, you should have a phone case that has two handles on either side of the phone case Once you're ready to use the device, you can put your phone in the case as normal and then you put your thumb in one side and your four fingers in the other side And you can switch sides depending on whether you're left-handed or right-handed So you can even just use your thumb in one handle and the back of the shelf liner should act as a slip resistant so you can hold your phone easier
