Interview with Mary Ellen Holden, the Geena Davis Institute (EQUALS in Tech Awards 2019)
Hi, my name is Mary Ellen Holden and I work for the Geena Davis Institute for Gender in Media We are the only non-profit organization that works directly with content creators to change representations of women and girls on screen With hopefully half of the characters being portrayed women It's incredibly important to us to win this award We know the competition was stiff We're looking to collaborate with people in the room here To help shape policy and help reach decision makers to invest in this area I think it's really important to recognize that media can change aspirations and possibilities And open doors for young girls and women We are investing heavily in social media to reach coders and young girls where our message can have an impact If she can see it, we can be it So if you see women who are successful in STEM, they can really change the world
